Lauren E. Bartlett

Lauren E. Bartlett is Associate Clinical Professor of Law at St. Louis University School of Law (SLU Law).  In Spring 2020, she launched a new Human Rights at Home Litigation Clinic at SLU Law which provides free civil legal services to immigrants living in poverty and detained persons in the St. Louis region and also works on human rights projects. 

Previously Professor Bartlett was the Director of Legal Clinics and Associate Professor of Law at Ohio Northern University College of Law and the Research and Training Director at the Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law at American University Washington College of Law.  She also worked with the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Torture and coordinated human rights advocacy programs on a variety of issues including human rights in the U.S., anti-torture, disability rights, and more.

Professor Bartlett has worked as a legal aid attorney and co-founded the Louisiana Justice Institute, a nonprofit civil rights legal advocacy organization. Before obtaining her law degree, Professor Bartlett worked with nonprofit organizations in California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nepal, Ghana, Bangladesh and India, alongside advocates fighting for social and environmental justice.

Professor Bartlett holds a B.A. from the University of California, Davis, and a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law.  Professor Bartlett’s scholarship focuses on the intersections between legal ethics, access to justice, and human rights.
