Lauren Smith
Associate Counsel
Lauren (L. Smith) Smith believes the lifeblood of democracy exists through accountability organizations that expose government wrongdoing and corruption — which led her exactly where she was meant to be: Whistleblower Aid.
Ms. Smith’s passion for free speech and law was shaped through her legal experiences. She worked extensively with whistleblowers and whistleblower law through legal clinics with the Government Accountability Project where she drafted legal reports about the corruption of the Deepwater Horizon BP Oil spill. She also helped shape anti-SLAPP policies at the Public Participation Project, and was a Legal Intern at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
Ms. Smith has a bachelor’s in Journalism and Communications from the University of Florida and a J.D from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law. She is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia.
