John N. Tye

Founder

John Tye founded Whistleblower Aid in 2017 following his own successful whistleblowing experience, lawfully disclosing allegedly unconstitutional activities by the U.S. National Security Agency.

He has extensive experience advancing and negotiating internet freedom, human rights, and surveillance policy at the highest levels of the U.S. government and internationally, including at the United Nations General Assembly and Human Rights Council. At the U.S. State Department he held a security clearance at the Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) level.

Mr. Tye is licensed to practice law in federal and local courts in the District of Columbia. He has years of experience litigating cases on behalf of individual clients. He won a prestigious Skadden Fellowship to represent hundreds of indigent clients in housing court in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Tye served on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana state chapter of the ACLU and is a former Rhodes Scholar and Yale Law School graduate.
