“Ingrassia did one thing right in this process – he withdrew”
WASHINGTON, D.C., October 21, 2025 – Following Paul Ingrassia’s withdrawal of his nomination for the Office of Special Counsel Whistleblower Aid Chief Legal Counsel, Andrew P. Bakaj, released the following statement:
“All those who care deeply about accountability and the rule of law are breathing a sigh of relief tonight that Mr. Ingrassia has withdrawn his imperiled nomination. The Office of Special Counsel demands integrity, humility, and respect for and to the American people. Mr. Ingrassia has instead denigrated his fellow Americans time and time again.
Ingrassia did one thing right in this process – he withdrew. I commend him for having the minimum self-awareness to conclude that his inexperience, racist leanings, and disdain for public servants – compounded with his failed character – make him resolutely unfit to hold the Office of Special Counsel.
At some point, this administration may come to the realization that hatred and contempt towards public servants – and their fellow Americans – must disqualify them from leading and protecting those who serve the nation. This is not the time to celebrate. It’s a time to exhale that an openly avowed Nazi has not been appointed to high office – and those who care about the health and future of our nation must not lose sight that other Ingrassia’s could be waiting in the wings. Our constitution – our nation – our democratic republic – can only continue if truth tellers are protected and our Congress has their back.”
