Organization calls for a nominee who can restore accountability among intelligence community leaders
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 22, 2026 – Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard today tendered her resignation effective June 30.
“Given her conduct in office, her politicization of the nation’s intelligence apparatus, her weaponization of the ODNI to retaliate against intelligence community employees, and her refusal to comply with federal law in providing a timely disclosure from one of our clients to Congress, Gabbard’s resignation is long overdue,” said WhistleblowerAid.org Chief Counsel Andrew P. Bakaj. “We hope that professionalism and integrity are restored to the ODNI after her tenure.”
“WhistleblowerAid.org calls upon President Trump to nominate a qualified individual to succeed Gabbard, and upon Congress to carefully vet the President’s choice. At this critical juncture, our nation needs an intelligence leader who is competent, knowledgeable, and experienced. The next DNI also needs to respect the independence and neutrality of the Intelligence Community Inspector General, so that federal intelligence workers can more safely and lawfully report wrongdoing.”
WhistleblowerAid.org is a pioneering non-profit legal organization founded in 2017 that helps public and private sector workers report and expose wrongdoing safely, lawfully, and responsibly.
