Election Protection in 2024 & Beyond
As the 2024 election approaches and democracy itself is on the ballot, we are missing a vital piece of the election protection infrastructure we need: a pathway for whistleblowers inside state, county, and city election offices to come forward and report any abuses or undue political interference they might have witnessed, and to be able to do so safely and legally.
Whistleblower Aid is providing that pathway.
Importantly, we provide our services entirely pro bono.
We saw in the wake of the 2020 election how poll workers and other responsible public officials were singled out, harassed, and maligned just for doing their jobs. These workers cannot simply call a reporter or call the FBI without expert legal guidance because, in most cases, they do not have the experience to know how to do this safely or lawfully. Indeed, there is a risk that people will not come forward this time around precisely because they are afraid of being in the cross-hairs and putting themselves and their families in harm’s way.
Our election protection effort:
- Educates election workers and administrators about their rights and about the avenues open to them to blow the whistle swiftly and effectively
- Protects them once they decide to come forward
- Empowers them through our advocacy and communications efforts against extremely powerful, well-funded political actors
We are providing webinars on election whistleblowing, participating in-person at panels, conferences, and other events, and will be launching a resource page and videos to educate future whistleblowers on avenues for lawfully reporting election wrongdoing.
